Yoshino Cherry Tree -- dead? or can it be treated .... #703152

Hello - Referred to you by Sun Nurseries -- Family and I live in Olney, MD - we planted 2 Yoshino Cherry Trees in the front yard 2 or 3 years ago (purchased from Sun Nurseries) -- They are approximately 50 feet apart, both in sunny areas. One is perfectly healthy (We think) and the other has dropped all it's leaves. We are wondering if we need a replacement -- Or is it sick and is there treatment? We noticed the tree wilting a bit about a month ago -- we have been watering -- then it just started dropping leaves ... I included photos of the trunk and it appears to have some damage -- and we do have quite a few deer and I have noticed a deer nibbling on the trunk -- We do spray deer repellent often (we also have tons of Hosta, which is a favorite food) ... The spraying does keep the deer away from the hosta -- I also spray the cherry trees - leaves and trunk. Your expert diagnosis would be very much appreciated. Thank you - Christian Johnson

I mulched my tomatoes with brown shredded mulch in the spring. Re/thinking this decision. There is also landscape fabric under mulch. Safe to harvest and eat? Thanks Mary

fruit trees in Columbus #681690

Hi, I am interested in planting fruit trees in my small front yard in Victorian Village in central Columbus. The yard is east-facing and gets a fair amount of sun in the morning, but less in the afternoon. I am planning to prune/top the trees to keep them small. I would like to plant at least one peach tree. Can you recommend a variety that tastes delicious and does well in this region? What other kinds of fruit would you recommend for growing in this area? Artillery Fungus #680507

Greetings, We completed a home renovation in fall of 2017 but did not do any landscaping. We ended up using some mulch that came from a tree removal company. We now have artillery fungus along the front and side of the house, and what seems like a slime mold in the back. I'm wondering what the options are for getting rid of these molds. Do we need to remove it all? Is there a way to kill it? Thank you for your help!

I'm doing research on South Dakota Prairie Grass and I want to know


1) what plant varieties grow in SD,


2) how long (or what criteria is needed) before a prairie field is certified true prairie,


3) If someone was to cut sod from a prairie grass field, will it grow back with the same plant species, and will that new growth be considered true prairie grass?

Leyland Cypress Browning #660879

We have planted a row of Leyland cypress trees. Some trees are browning in areas, some are dying. I have read this most be fungus related? I'm not sure how to manage or prevent spread? Or, how to help trees currently browning. We have over 70 trees.

REPLACING SOGGY LAWN FOR PLAY AREA WITH WHAT? #650590

Hi, I have a soggy lawn that is probably always going to be a wet area because it is flat, poor drainage, and the grass/moss really suck up and retain the moisture. I want to have a playhouse with a slide for the kids in this area. What could I use as a ground cover that would be attractive, easy on the kid's knees, and allow the rain to wick off quickly after rain storms? The area is about 14 x 12. I will upload some images of the playhouse with and without the slide. BTW I graduated with an MBA from OSU's business school in the 1970's.
