Crimson King Maple dying ? #565354

I have a Crimson King Maple tree that had one branch of leaves wilt, and then die last fall. This Spring, two thirds of the tree is bare. There does seem to be buds now forming on the top of some of the bare branches . My neighbor’s son is a horticulturist, and he felt it was due to drought. This tree was a gift from my mother 25 yrs ago. Please help me save it if you can. Thank you !

I have an eight-foot square patch of weeds in my back yard, next to the compost tumbler. As of last summer, they stayed fairly low to the ground, but this spring have shot up and now are easily 4-feet high. The leaves look rough, like kale. Seeds at the top look like quinoa. What are these plants? Are there parts that are edible? Parts I should avoid? Is there some look-alike toxic twin? My guess is this question’s title line, and three photos are attached. Thank you.

Help identify tree disease and solution please? #564036

Hello, there are a few trees in my back yard that has this and one has died (see attached photo) and it seems to start infecting a huge plum tree as shown in the picture. What is this? What can we do to help getting rid of the disease so we can save the huge plum tree? Thanks so much!

My wife has a small (3'x6'x1') raised garden in which she wished to raise some of her favorite herbs (Korean); last year she had a fair harvest. I decided to 'save the soil' for her during the winter (thinking the heavy rains would just 'wash' all the nutrients away), and covered the garden with black plastic sheeting. We took the seeds from last year, started some 'babies' in April, placed those pretty little things the first of May, and Absolutely Nothing has happened since! Fish emulsion and all! Nothing! I forgot to tell you (Thanks), We started last year with 10 bags of topsoil, and 3 bags of 'steer' manure. then used fish emulsion. Help! Did I 'kill' the soil with my good intentions? Thanks Again. The NRCS monitoring rubric seems like it really applies to BLM land not small, heavily managed private pastures. What should be measured to determine success? Stubble height, live plant cover, plant diversity, noxious weeds? And how many samples per acre for statistical viability. Please advise. Do King Gold Cypress do well in Maryland. I live in Howard County and would like to plant a group of these on a the south-west side of my house. It would get a lot of afternoon sun. I have heard they do not do well in hot weather.'

I'm hoping to add a Crimson King Maple tree to my yard. Wiil this tree resist or attract Japanese beetles? Trust me, our neighborhood is a hotbed for the pest. Many of us are avid gardeners (like gardening junkies!), and a vineyard is about a block away, plus lots of Linden trees in the area which the beetles also love. Thank you.

Broad Leaf Maple tree (From a Crimson King) #490400

The tree is about 30-feet tall, about 8-inches in diameter at mid trunk. I notice a fine line as if some one took a razor blade and cut the trunk vertically. I am not sure if this happened naturally or if some one actually did cut the tree? I have had to dig about 4-feet from the base because of a lawn sprinkler leak and may have damaged some roots. I covered the injury with a tree paint but I noticed a branch off the main trunk where the bark has lifted and there were wolf spiders beneath. Will this tree die? Besides fertilizing what recommendations could I be given to save the tree? Tree is about 15-years old. The only tree in the yard.

Artillery Fungus #488264

I live in the Frederick County Watershed and this last year have noticed tiny black dots appear on my vehicle, bird feeders, and other areas surrounding our house. I've read that it is most likely Artillery Fungus. Is there anything that will help get all these spots off my car? I've scrapped some of them off but it still leaves a black spot. Also is there anyway to prevent it from continuing to grow and spread?
