Is it ok to add dried spruce (Sitka) needles to compost piles? There's a lot of info on pine needles, but not spruce. My compost pile is not hot - I use worms.

Sick Pine Tree #567427

Good Morning, I have several of this type of pine tree in my yard.  This one has started to turn brown just in the last two weeks.  All the others are beautiful and green.  I can see no evidence of any sort of infestation.  I fear the tree is dying quickly.  Any recommendations?  thank you, Mark Seglem.

Compost applied over evergreen needles #557029

I have 3 large redwoods and numerous cypress and other evergreens. We’d like to spread a 3” layer if well aged compost under them to cover the needles that were dropped. Will this help build up the nutrients in the soil and help reduce the combustible material in the event of a wild fire? Also- last year due to the many months of sun many of the trees were stressed. We will be watering this year. How often should we water large fully established trees?

Vegetable beds filled with compost rather than soil/compost mix—what to do? #447406

I hired someone to fill my raised vegetable garden beds with a soil/compost mix but instead he filled them with straight compost (I think he thought he was doing me a favor). Wondering what the best plan of action is... I would rather not remove all the compost and have to hire the whole process over again if it is salvageable. I have the analysis of the compost (dated 4/2017—see attached). Can I plant my veggies in this compost? Will I have poor results? Can I amend with soil in the top few inches of the beds? Help!

While Pines Recently Planted #426681

I planted 3 potted white pine trees about 6 weeks ago. They are about 36 inches tall and nicely filled out. Recently they have developed some yellow needles that I'm concerned about. Am I watering too much? Too little? The sold is about 6 inches of topsoil and then sandy soil. Or is this normal?

pine trees losing green pine needles #412171

We have several large (20 in at base) pine trees that are losing green needles.  Started about two weeks ago.  In 35 years don't think I have seen the green needle loss.  We live in Black Forest near the El Paso County border.  (Approx. 7000 ft.)
