Digging Dahlia Tubers #947958

Asked October 31, 2026, 3:42 PM EDT

My Dahlias are still blooming and beautiful. I've always waited until after a hard frost to dig the tubers. Is it safe to dig then up before a hard frost? I really don't want to wait until a possible snow in November to dig them up. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for using our forum. The recommendation is to dig up dahlia bulbs after the foliage dries up or is killed by frost. I don't think it will harm the bulbs if you dig them now. here is a link to more information on dahlias and other bulbs: https://extension.umn.edu/garden-and-home/yard-and-garden/gardening-in-minnesota/planting-bulbs-tubers-and-rhizomes#storing-tender-bulbs-1403111
