Roundleaf dogwood cutting baby off #947851

Asked October 28, 2026, 8:19 PM EDT

I have a roundleaf dogwood shrub in my backyard for over 2 years. There is a small stem to the left of the main stem. Can I safely dig it out and replant it?

Expert Response

Thanks for the question. I am not familiar with Roundleaf Dogwood. The stem to the left appears to be glossy buckthorn, an invasive shrub. Here is more information for you to compare and verify ID:  https://extension.umn.edu/natural-resources/forestry-and-wildlife/invasive-species/glossy-buckthorn

If it is buckthorn, you will want to dig it out and throw it out.
