Maple leaves #947207

Asked October 16, 2026, 3:25 PM EDT

Our HOA has over 85 autumn blaze maples that drop a lot of leaves! Historical we have had the leaves removed during the fall cleanup. We also have over 300 15 year old spruce trees surrounding the community that are in marginal soil. Would it help the spruces if we muclched the maple leaves and spread around the spruces.

Expert Response

Mulch is good for all trees. The type of leaves used for mulch is not as particular, as long as it is organic, i.e. no rocks. Use the maple leaves to mulch the spruce and the maples.
