Grape identification #946642

Asked October 07, 2026, 1:45 AM EDT

I'm wondering if you can help me identify this particular grape variety. It is a seeded slip-skin, with generally 3-4 seeds, mildly foxy (if I understand what 'foxy' is), ripens after Himrod and before Concord. It was on my property before I bought it, and is planted alongside other varietals that were obtained from Al's Garden Center in Woodburn, probably 20+ years ago. Thank you, and let me know if you need any more details.

One other thing... when in the shade (such as my vines that are directly under my ash tree) the berries normally stay green. The clusters on the vines along my driveway turn a pink/red color.

Thank you for your question and for reaching out to Ask Extension.

Identifying grape varieties can be difficult, but your description narrows down the options. From your description and the photos, the vine could be Catawba or Delaware. They are both red-fruited, seeded, slip-skin grapes with a "foxy" flavor. Delaware is noted for having a milder foxy flavor. Read through the links below to see if the descriptions match your grapevine.
