Greetings, We are building a new detached garage which will require our driveway to be expanded over a section of open earth that includes prominent, Elm Tree roots from a mature 75 year old tree. Our question is.. how close to the roots can the new concrete can be poured and whether any of the roots can be cut/removed without damaging the health of the tree. The Driveway view picture shows the open space near the fence, the Elm Roots picture shows two prominent 'knobs' of root which have grown above ground level. The ground perspective photo shows that the current root knobs are about 1 to 3 inches above the surface level of the existing concrete. If you have experience with this type of situation or would recommend someone who does, I would appreciate the input. Ideally the new concrete will be 4 inches deep and we would like to establish a perimeter around the roots if that is required. Thank you,
