Help with fruit trees #944097

Asked September 02, 2026, 3:10 PM EDT

I have 2 nectarines trees and 5 cherry trees that need pruning. I also need help keeping them sprayed for insects and disease. Where can I get help with this?

Cecil County Maryland

Unfortunately, we don't really have this information. UMD Extension does not maintain a list of landscaping businesses or collect information on their services (whether for pruning or pesticide applications), so we don't have a list to share, and we aren't able to recommend particular companies. Local businesses or individuals that offer services specific to fruit tree care seem to be scarce, as it takes special training (fruit trees are pruned somewhat differently than ornamental trees) and diagnostic experience to know what pests and diseases to spray for and when to apply those sprays.

When we last had a bit of information about fruit tree pruning services several years ago, we had heard of a couple options in central Maryland, but we do not know what counties they cover or if they are still providing fruit tree care services. They were Velvet Touch Rose Care in Montgomery County and Edible Eden Foodscapes in Baltimore City.

Regarding hiring someone to spray, many landscaping businesses and arborists hold pesticide applicator licenses, but it would be a matter of finding someone who knows how to ID any pest or disease problems as they arise (and how best to treat them), or who can follow a spray guide like the Virginia Tech Pest Management Guide for home fruits.
