Hello,
I’m hoping you can provide some guidance or a referral. We have a large, established low-hanging hornet? nest hanging in a tree on our property in Cambridge. I’ve attached a photo of a similar nest for reference.
It is a beautiful nest, and I would be happy to leave it undisturbed, but given its location and proximity to neighbors, I think it would be best to have it removed.
Can you recommend someone in the Cambridge/Dorchester County area who handles this type of nest removal? If possible, I would prefer someone knowledgeable about bees, wasps, and hornets rather than simply treating it as a general pest-control issue.

The pictured nest is that of a Baldfaced Hornet, a common native wasp species. Conflicts with people are uncommon (especially if the nest hasn't bothered anyone yet, since it's been there since late spring or so), but if you feel that it's too great a risk to keep the nest around for the final few weeks of its activity (nests are not reused from year to year), a pest control professional is probably the only way to remove it if you are not comfortable spraying it with wasp spray yourself. Wasp spray will kill the colony members and is designed to be used from a distance that reduces the likelihood of stings; there is no way to successfully relocate the nest or get the workers to abandon it, especially this late in the season.
