Odd holes on grape leaves #943756

Asked August 30, 2026, 7:41 AM EDT

Wondering what insect (?) made the holes in these grape leaves that I saw recently when out hiking. Not important, since it's just a wild vine, but I am curious. Hadn't noticed this pattern before.

Hi,

Thank you for the picture.  I was unable to find pictures with the slit-like holes in your picture.  Although it seems grape flea beetle damage is likely from the name alone, the holes do not appear typical, see https://ohiograpeweb.cfaes.ohio-state.edu/ipm/insects/grape-flea-beetle.  The closest I can find are from Japanese beetles, but not slit-like.  See https://cropipm.omafra.gov.on.ca/en-ca/crops/grapes/insects-and-mites/12581e18-268a-434e-ba58-609f2e4ec7bf?iid=ce5da9ac-96a6-449d-9453-665b6d8ddf04#identification.

Thank you for your question.
