Hi there, Tri-Color Beech is beautiful ornamental species of the European beech that can be sensitive to hot weather and full sun. They prefer cooler weather and as Southeast Michigan keeps breaking records for hottest and driest days during our summer months, they can be difficult to maintain. Because of the sensitive varigated leaves, they are very susceptible to leaf scorch, a condition similar to a bad sunburn. Moving the tree to another location, preferably with moist, well draining soil, and in the shadow of a larger tree to provide shade cover, would be best. If that is not an option, increasing the amount of water it recieves through the hot months, as well as applying a wide ring of mulch around the root base, leaving a couple inches clear around the trunk, and planting a fast growing, larger tree or shrub to provide more shade are different ways you can help this tree.
