Aug 11 On the 9th my pumkin looked perfect. Today, there is a large white 5" in diameter white patch directly on the top of it. The leaves are fine; no damage or pests. The internet is telling me that my pumpkin likely got sunburned from being in the direct hot sun all day. Could that be true? When I walk through farmer's pumpkin fields in October, I don't see sunburned pumpkins. Is there another reasonable explanation? I'm afraid my giant pumpkin is now just going to rot (same thing happened last year).

I’m so sorry! Yes, giant pumpkins easily out-grow the shade plant leaves naturally provide, and the sun scald or burn will likely lead to rot.
