Olive Tree's #941832

Hello, I recently came upon your article about growing Olive Tree's in Oregon. I was wondering if there was a way to be part of the study on a smaller scale (we are in Central Oregon but do have a greenhouse) & where to purchase cold hardy olive tree's. Thanks, Randi Ruddell <personal data hidden>

Hi Randi,
Thank you for reaching out and asking about olives. If you are in Central Oregon, using a heated greenhouse in winter would be the way to go. Olives are sensitive to cold damage below 20F, with trees often dying below 10F. Olive producers are located in the Willamette Valley with a few in southern Oregon. We are studying cold-hardiness, but the cold temps of Central Oregon are beyond the cold-tolerance of Olives (at least unprotected).
