Please identify the tree in the attached images. It grows rapidly in my yard and is similar to the tree in images that I submitted in a request a few days ago.

Montgomery County Maryland

Expert Response

Hi,

Thank you for your question. From the photos the tree is a Paper Mulberry (Broussonetia papyrifera) which is an invasive tree.  According to UMD Extension it is fairly easy to remove when it is young by hand pulling. You can also cut young trees to the ground repeatedly.  Mature trees can be controlled using herbicides glyphosate or triclopyr applied by  hack-and-squirt, or injection methods. Monitor the area and pull up any new seedling.

I hope this is helpful.
