Yes, that is a red mulberry tree. Why do you think I or the DNR wants to know?

The internet says these trees are protected and rare? Just checking... I love it! I have some volunteers that I am replanting as well

Sara, I was mistaken! This is a white mulberry tree, which is often confused with the red mulberry. Thanks for your reply and explaining why the DNR would be interested in knowing. Yes, the red mulberry is native yet rare in Minnesota. Link to more information: https://www.extension.purdue.edu/extmedia/fnr/fnr_237.pdf

I don't know if this answer is good news or not for you?? You certainly can grow the white variety and enjoy the fruit!
