Indoors plants #932143

Asked May 18, 2026, 4:22 PM EDT

Are there any indoor plants that would do well in a pot that does not have a drainage hole?

Expert Response

Although some gardeners have success growing houseplants in undrained pots, it risks overwatering (or underwatering, if someone is being too cautious with watering) the roots. If there is an undrained pot you'd like to use for aesthetic reasons (or for its weight, such as to keep a top-heavy plant more stable), then we recommend using a drained pot inside of it to actually grow the plant in.
