Pollinator lawn question #931802

Asked May 15, 2026, 11:58 AM EDT

Hi! I planted a pollinator lawn last year, and left the leaves over winter, and fear I left them too long, as there are a lot of spots with bare dirt now. Should I add any more seeds? The violets have always been there. I just don’t want ragweed or something to see the opportunity and take over!

Expert Response

Weeds will take over any bare spots - they are opportunists.

I don’t know what was in your bee lawn mix but it may have included some annual seeds that wouldn’t survive the winter. You can over-seed in the bare areas and I would do that soon and hopefully before a good rainfall.
