Planting raspberries #931658

Asked May 14, 2026, 10:51 AM EDT

I have new raspberry plants that are about ready to set out. However, the forecast for Sunday and Monday is for possible bad storms and 1-2 inches of rain. Would it be better to plant them now or after Monday?

Carlton County Minnesota

Expert Response

I would wait because the high winds that accompany storms can uproot the plants.  This would increase transplant shock for the plants.  Also it looks like cooler days are ahead in Carlton County so soil temps may not be ideal for transplant for another week or two.
