Asked May 14, 2026, 9:56 AM EDT

Hi, I got a question from DetroitAbloom on how much “Michigan natives” content is in the current Extension Master Gardener course. They got an inquiry about this and asked me. Thanks! Cindy S.

I can's say specifically how much content is about Michigan native plants. They are integrated into the all the chapters. For example, we talk about the need for cold stratification and winter sowing during the Propagation class. Native insects are included in the Insects chapter. We include lawn alternatives in the section on Lawns. Information about soils, trees and shrubs, and flowers, applies to both native plants and non-native plants.

The class is a basic overview of all types of gardening and does not exclude certain types plants.
