I have some lavender that got leggy and needs trimming. It is blooming now. When and how much can I cut it back without killing it?

This looks like Spanish lavender, Lavandula stoechas. This type of lavender doesn't do well with heavy pruning and responds best to a light pruning after bloom. Wait until the blooms fade and then do a light pruning, cutting back the shoots by about 1/4 to 1/3; just don't cut back into the leafless woody stems. Lavender will not regrow on woody stems. Pruning should take place at least once a year.
