Getting rid of Lilyturf in the lawn #930803

Asked May 06, 2026, 12:14 PM EDT

Is the attached Lilyturf? I am wondering the best way to kill it without harming my grass. Recently planted Zoysia plugs and do not want to kill them.

Unfortunately, our group cannot answer your question because it doesn't serve your location. Please contact your local Cooperative Extension office for assistance. A good way to find your local office is to go to https://extension.org/search/ and enter your county or parish name along with your state name. Say what?

My home is in Catonsville, Baltimore County.

Do you not serve Baltimore County?

We apologize for the mix-up. Our view of your question submission shows a state selection of Virginia and a county selection of Virginia Beach, and questions from outside of Maryland are given the auto-reply you received.

The plants pictured are hard to ID with certainty since they aren't blooming (flowers are a key ID feature, especially when different species have similar foliage), but yes, they do resemble Liriope (perhaps Liriope spicata). You likely won't find any herbicide that will only kill the Liriope without also damaging the zoysia, so they'll either have to be dug out manually or spot-sprayed with something like glyphosate to kill the Liriope and (if needed) any damaged zoysia in that area replanted.
