Can you help identify this growth on our (I think) cherry trees

That is black knot fungus. Quite common on cherry and other stone fruit trees, which can be controlled by pruning it off. Dispose of it after cutting off to reduce the spread of spores. Here is a link for more details: https://extension.umn.edu/plant-diseases/black-knot#pruning-out-galls-1170311
