Tulip Bulbs #930393

Asked May 02, 2026, 4:00 PM EDT

I have a tulip plant leftover from a church event in early April. Am I able to use those bulbs in my yard for next year? I don’t have any details on species or type.

Expert Response

Thank you for your question for Extension Master Gardeners. Unfortunately, tulip bulbs only contain enough food in them to bloom once, so you won't be able to plant it in the soil. This fall, there will be a variety of colors and bulbs for you to plant up until the ground freezes.

Happy gardening!
