Interpreting soil testing results #930233

Asked May 01, 2026, 8:24 AM EDT

We live on a 1/3 acre wooded lot with no lawn (yay!) and deer/rabbit pressure. I've been planting native plants as well as adding shrubs and mid-height sub canopy trees to the property. I have fenced the shrubs/tree saplings It's been slow going. Sent 4 soil samples to Waypoint Analytical and now have the results. I would like to talk with someone about understanding the results! I live in Long Reach in Columbia. Is there a physical location where I could talk with a MG and bring the results?

Howard County Maryland

Expert Response

Hi,

Yes you could call the extension office in Howard County to check when they have open office hours or look for a Master Gardener Plant Clinic to attend (the link is showing 2025 locations and dates, so if you call the office, you can confirm if they are still the same). The Home Horticulture Coordinator is  Natasha Meehleib.

You can also attach the results to a reply. We can look them over and advise on any questions you may have.

We also have a resource page that helps explain your soil test results: Understanding your soil test report.
