anthracnose on Apple and Pear Trees #930176

Asked April 30, 2026, 2:12 PM EDT

I think I have anthracnose attacking some of our apple and pear trees. Leaves die off and the bark looks like it could peel off. I have attached a couple pictures, but I could not find any really bad one as I cut them out and burned them. What should I do to control the disease?

Hi, David,
As you guessed, the photos don't have enough information for a diagnosis - and the second one is too blurry. However, take a look at this article and compare it with the symptoms you have seen. If it does look like anthracnose, the article provides instructions on treatment. https://pnwhandbooks.org/plantdisease/host-disease/apple-malus-spp-anthracnose-bulls-eye-rot
If the symptoms don't match, you can browse through the PNW Handbook for other ailments that do, or send better photos when you can get them.
