Oxalic acid dribble varroa mite treatment #930169

Asked April 30, 2026, 1:40 PM EDT

Anyone using oxalic acid mixed with water + glycerin versus mixing with sugar syrup to treat against varroa mites? Formula besides Randy Oliver's?

The best place to look for directions for miticides are the EPA labels, as that will tell you both how to mix things up, and what protective gear that you should be using: https://www.epa.gov/pollinator-protection/epa-registered-pesticide-products-approved-use-against-varroa-mites-bee-hives

The label for Api bioxal (which is an OA in powder form), will tell you the recipe for how to mix it in sugar water if you are planning on using the dribble method (which we use a lot), or the spray method (for packages).

The addition of glycerin by Randy is for making a product that is long term - that would work like VarroxSan and stay in the hive for weeks.
