Landscaping in Lane County #930098

Asked April 29, 2026, 9:21 PM EDT

Hello- Whom would you recomend I could speak with regarding landscaping around the home. I would like to have more indigunous plants that do not require a lot of water (resource friendly), are not harmful to people or animals, naturally pest and fire repelant and not expensive. Is there a local indigunous group or person that you know about who would be helpful in this area. I feel that knowlegebase is not utilitzed or represented enough and would not want such valuable information to disapear. Thank you.

You can search for a local landscaper that specializes in native plants. I also recommend you visit some of the local native plant nurseries, such as Doak Creek Native Plant Nursery, Willamette Wildlings, and Trillium Gardens. OSU Extension has a number of publications related to native plants, pollinators and firescaping, that you can find in the OSU Extension Catalog (https://extension.oregonstate.edu/catalog/pubs-by-top-level-topic). A few to look for include Gardening with Oregon Native Plants West of the Cascades, Native Plant Picks for Bees, 10 Resilient Plants for Waterwise Oregon GardensDrought-tolerant Landscape Plants for Western Oregon, and Fire-resistant plants for home landscapes. The Oregon Flora website is also a great website for learning about native plants in Oregon. The Lane County Master Gardeners are hosting a seminar on May 19th on Native Plant Gardens for Pollinators, Wildlife and Connected Landscapes.
