Why is your plant “leggy”? If there isn’t enough light, or it is struggling for some reason, then it might again regrow leggy. However, if you have checked the care of the plant (mulch, watering) and maybe pruned other plants so it gets adequate light, it might be more full.
Another idea, rather than cutting the whole thing back is to remove a fourth or a third of the branches each year after blooming. In three to five years you’ll have a refreshed shrub.
