What kind of Tree to plant #930069

Asked April 29, 2026, 4:18 PM EDT

My crepe myrtle tree was destroyed during the last snow storm we had. It broke my heart. That tree had to be removed, and i’d like to replace it with a tree that is heartier than the crepe myrtle. Please recommend a tree that is fast growing and heartier than the crepe myrtle. Thanks very much.

Dear Nikki

Thank you for reaching out to Ask Extension.  I am sorry to hear that you lost your Crepe Myrtle in the last snow storm.  I recommend a soil test in the area you want to plant a tree prior to planting.  There are many things to consider when planting a tree. I have included 2 links for you. The second one has many trees including what zones they are hardy in, how large they get and what kind of soil they prefer.  The first link is how to plant the tree, as well as links to types of trees.  I hope this helps.
