Could you help identify these dirt spots/holes? I thought my spouse went crazy with the dandelion digger but that wasn't it. Haven't seen them before and we've lived her for decades

Hello,
These are likely from nightcrawlers. As they clean their underground tunnels, they push out waste and form these mounds on top of the turf or soil. There isn't much you can do to prevent this, nor prevent the nightcrawler activity in your landscape.
