removing tree trunk protective wrap #929791

We have two young maple trees (trunks 3-4 inches diameter) we wrapped with white plastic guards for the winter. Is there a time we should remove the plastic guards for spring through fall seasons? Is it a good idea to leave the plastic guards on the trees to protect the bark on the young trees? Thank you. Joel Huser

HI Joel,

The trunk guards should be removed in April and put on again for winter in November. Leaving them on during the summer can lead to bark problems from heat and moisture.
