I planted these boxwood last summer and this spring they appear to be stressed with leaves turning a yellowish color.. Unsure if I should treat with additional water or other remedies.

HI Pat, and thanks for your question! The damage on your boxwoods appears to be cold damage- something they're likely to be able to recover from. Despite being cold hardy to zone 5, boxwoods are notorious for getting cold damage, especially in windy areas where frequent winds dry out the leaves, and they get "cold burn". In addition, we've had several "false spring" situations with warm weather that encourages new growth, then hard freezes that then damage that tender new growth- new growth being the most susceptible to cold damage.

The pattern on damage on your plants matches- on tops and edges where wind burn or new growth would be- as well as the color- suggest cold damage.

In this case, you could trim out the discolored tips and unless we get additional deep freezes, you will see the plants grow past this issue.
If when trimming the plants you come across signs of insect or disease damage- for instance holes in the leaves or chewing around edges- feel free to take closeup pictures of leaves and add those to this conversation. It looks most likely that this is a cold issue.

I hope you find this helpful!
best wishes, Nicole
