Goal - No front lawn mowing #929149

Asked April 21, 2026, 5:18 PM EDT

Hi Extension office- I'd like to replace my front yard lawn with an evergreen native groundcover. Ideally it should be easy to maintain, and not be prone to diseases.

Hello again,
In addition to the plants listed in the previous response on groundcovers, which may include a plant or plants that suit your situation, check out the article from Mount Cuba on carex.
Another useful publication is from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department: Native Plants for the Chesapeake Watershed. Pages 14 to 17 list the characteristics of grasses and grass-like plants.
