Improving watering systems #929141

Asked April 21, 2026, 4:26 PM EDT

I’m wondering what is the best watering system I can install and use for my garden and yard? My front yard has mainly crimson clover and a little grass that we planted. With an additional patch of yard that is separated by a sidewalk. My backyard is a mix of grass, clover, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, and three vegetable beds one of which has some herbs in it.

We don't have specific information on irrigation systems. It would be best to speak with a professional from a company that installs them. In general, it is best to be able to have different zones for the different needs of the plants. For example, tomatoes will need consistent deep watering, and this may be daily in the high heat of the summer, but many herbs like rosemary and thyme would rot with too much water.

Watering at the base of plants is best to avoid getting water on the foliage, since that can cause bacterial and fungal diseases.

Systems that have rain sensors would also be good, so that you are only watering when it's needed.
