How to rabbit proof a deck #929072

Asked April 21, 2026, 9:42 AM EDT

We are having a new deck put in. We have had a rabbit living under our old deck. What can we do to discourage the rabbit from moving into the space under our new deck. Thanks.

It's great that you're thinking proactively to avoid future problems with the rabbit! Creating an undiggable+unchewable barrier to exclude the rabbit will be easy to do in this early construction stage and highly effective over the long-term. I advise using welded wire "hardware cloth" attached to the bottom of your deck (or up to 2' high, but supported with posts if not able to connect securely to the deck itself) -- Make sure to bury (4-6 inches deep, and 1 foot lateral should suffice) an outward-flared "apron" of the same material to prevent underdigging by the rabbit.
