Azalea Growth Problem #928883

Asked April 19, 2026, 4:25 PM EDT

For the last few years my azalea has small branches that grow above the blooms. It looks very odd. How could I resolve this problem as trimming has not helped.

Expert Response

This is a normal growth pattern for many azaleas. Trimming them back (after bloom) is all you can do.  Many of my azaleas are growing like that as well.  Not a problem, as the pruning will keep them in the shape you want.
