Expert Response

Yes, those numbers look quite good. Your soil pH is a little high, but it is close to neutral and most garden vegetables will grow well at that pH. A few that prefer acidic soil may struggle to take up certain nutrients, and that will show up in a few ways, most notably leaf chlorosis, where leaves or portions of leaves will appear lighter green or yellow, often with dark green veins. Garden soils in Michigan generally do not respond well to attempts to acidify them (lowering the pH), so we generally recommend avoiding plants that require acidic soil or those that struggle, rather than lowering pH. I would avoid adding additional alkaline material (like wood ash) that will raise the pH higher.

Is this an inground garden or raised bed? What have you amended your soil with (such as compost, manure, etc.)? Have plants been growing well, or have you noticed some problems with growth or productivity?
