Jumping worm at Ella Baker School #928794

Asked April 18, 2026, 11:36 AM EDT

We are starting a school garden at Ella Baker school in MPS and last fall I saw what I believe is jumping worm. Our plugs have not come back (but extreme rabbit pressure may be part of the issue). I have so many questions and would love to talk to someone about best practices but also how our students can be involved with citizen science. Can you please direct me to the best person to contact. Thank you, Leslie

Thanks for contacting us.

Here are a couple of sites regarding jumping worms. Note that they are characterized by a distinct white band near their anterior ends. Pay particular attention to the second site where the “Worm Ranger” project is described. This may be something with which your students might become involved.

With respect to speaking to someone, please contact the Hennepin County Extension Office. I’m sure they would be glad to assist you.
