Expert Response
Are the banana plants hardy bananas (Musa basjoo) growing in the ground? If so, it should be fine to use, though it won't provide a lot in the way of nutrients simply given how comparatively fast grass clippings break down. If this is a banana plant in a pot, a fertilizer (liquid or granular) application would be more effective. As a mulch by itself, clippings are fine to use, but since they dry out and break down fairly quickly they won't be an effective mulch (to suppress weeds, slow evaporation and erosion, etc.) all season long.
