The plants don't have enough clearly-visible, distinctive features yet this early in the season, but from what we can see of some flower buds, they resemble Lily-of-the-Valley (Convallaria majalis). Even though it's a popular garden groundcover for shady areas, it's a non-native plant that can spread invasively (it's present in natural areas in several Maryland counties). If you can confirm the ID as the plants unfurl more fully, we would recommend their replacement with a non-invasive species; our groundcovers page can provide some ideas if needed.

There is a native species of Lily-of-the-Valley (Convallaria pseudomajalis, also listed as Convallaria majuscula), but it has not been observed to occur naturally in Maryland (its native range is in the mountains south of us) and it is rare enough in the nursery trade that it's very unlikely another gardener (if someone gardened in this landscape before you) has planted some.
