Tree Health #928260

Asked April 13, 2026, 1:31 PM EDT

Is this tree–juniper I believe–dead or dying? Can it be saved? What is the potential cause of the injury/death? Is it possible that it will spread to nearby deciduous and coniferous trees, and if so what should I do to prevent it?

Expert Response

Hello!

Thank you for contacting Ask Extension with your question about your tree. The up-close pictures of the branches provide a good start. A little more information will be helpful. Could you please take a picture of the tree from a distance? If you could stand back with the camera so that the whole tree is in view, as well as any nearby structures or sidewalks/driveways. Is this tree located on the south or west side of a structure?

I’ll be watching for your information and get started just as soon as it arrives!

Thanks again for contacting Ask Extension.
