Neomatodes for yard #928188

Asked April 12, 2026, 7:52 PM EDT

Would like to know the best nematodes for mid-Michigan. We have lots of grubs. I'm guessing Japanese beetles bc they attack our garden all summer.

Expert Response

I don't have a lot of experience with beneficial nematodes.  However, Heterorhabditis bacteriophora is an organic microscopic worm that parasitizes and kills lawn grubs. They require moist soil, temperatures between 60°F and 85°F, and are best applied in early fall or late summer (late July-August) when grubs are small and young.  If you have grubs that overwintered and are feeding you can also treat now.
