Maintaining a C. Florida pink dogwood in ball & burlap #928179

Asked April 12, 2026, 6:00 PM EDT

I purchased a Cornus Florida dogwood on 4/11/26. I will not be able to plant it for about a month. It is approximately 5-6 feet in height. It is bald and burlapped in a container. How much and how often should I water it until I can plant it? Do you have any other advice? Thank you

Expert Response

Hi Michele,
The sooner you can plant it, the better.  After about 3-4 weeks the nutrients in the ball may decrease.  Keep the tree in the shade and keep it moist, but not soaking wet.  Test the soil with your finger a few inches down and then water if it is dry. This link may give you some more information.
