Help me replace my trees, please! #927950

Asked April 09, 2026, 4:44 PM EDT

Xcel cleared many of my trees and I am heartbroken. I lost a dozen aspens and half a dozen mature healthy pines and I'm looking for expertise on what I can plant in their place. I live in Evergreen at almost 9000 feet and need something hearty, deer resistant, and that will not grow tall enough that an energy company finds issue. Goes without saying that I want something that makes ecological sense and hopefully provides a home for some of the wildlife that just lost theirs. Thank you for your help.

Hi Megan,

Thank you for using ask extension.

I am so sorry about the loss of your trees. Please reach out to Xcel to confirm the maximum height allowed below the power lines before planting any new trees.

I am attaching lists of native and non-native trees and shrubs that do well at higher elevations, make sure you are noting the mature height when making your selections.
