Expert Response
Most soils in northern Colorado are alkaline (>7.0 pH). It's generally because our soils are not as weathered as those in more eastern, wetter climates.
There are three places to get your soil tested:
•CSU Soil, Plant, and Water Testing Lab (Denver)
Basic soil test - $38; complete soil test - $45
•Weld Labs (Greeley)
Basic soil test - $20; essential soil test - $26
•Ward Labs (Kearney, NE)
Basic soil test - $17.35; routine soil test - $23.65
Use a local lab because they use different testing mechanisms for alkaline soils.
