Should one try to cover new growth of perineals in a garden when there is a freeze warning?

It is often suggested to mulch around perennials. In fall that is easiest with fallen leaves. Leaving plants protected in April and May is dependent on weather conditions and the type of plant. Heavy frost can nip new growth and flower buds so a light cloth can help for overnight care. Make sure to remove it at sunup because the wet weight of the cover can cause damage.
