How can I get rid/ control apple maggots? #927528

Asked April 04, 2026, 5:13 PM EDT

I have 1 honey crisp apple tree and 1 Cortland apple tree. Last year, both were attacked by apple maggots. I did the sticky red balls thing on both trees. The balls attracted lots of bugs, but didnt stop the apple maggot attack. This year I am thinking of spraying the trees with Neem oil and then a fruit tree spray. Would you recommend trying this approach? If it is worth a try, how many days after a rain can I spray the trees with Neem oil? After an application, how long must the tree be dry for the oil to be effective? Would rain after 24 hrs., 48 hrs. 72hrs….wash away the oil? Would I have to reapply the oil? And when should I spray the trees with a fruit tree spray? How often and when should I spray with fruit tree spray? Thank you very much for the information you share.
