Magical Daydream Winterberry #927501

Asked April 04, 2026, 12:32 PM EDT

Hello - I planted 3 Magical Daydream Winterberry Bushes. I also Planted a Jim Dandy Winterberry Bush. They are all planted alongside my house within 25 to 50 feet of each other. I planted in 2022 and still am not getting berries in the winter. Any thoughts???? I am beginning to think that the plant that was labeled Jim Dandy is not really a Jim Dandy. Or that the Jim Dandy is not a sutable pollinator.

On the web page we found describing that variety, the breeder for that winterberry variety advises gardeners to use 'Southern Gentleman' as the pollinating male. Winterberry flowers over a period of a few weeks, and some selections are early-season bloomers while others are late-season. 'Jim Dandy' blooms early in the winterberry flowering season; 'Southern Gentleman' blooms late, so if the flowers on 'Magical Daydream' open late too, then the pollinators aren't able to use 'Jim Dandy' pollen to fertilize the 'Magical Daydream' blooms.

We noticed you're in Ohio, not Maryland (your question was in Maryland's queue), so we recommend you check with local Extension services for additional questions.
