Expert Response

Good morning Betty,

Thank you for reaching out to the University of New Hampshire Extension Infoline regarding your blueberry pruning question. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity for home visits. We do, however, offer several in-person pruning demonstrations, typically from February until April. There are a three blueberry demonstrations scheduled this month: April 10th in Wolfeboro, April 18th in Acworth and April 24th in North Haverhill. More information about these can be found on the UNH Extension Pruning Demonstrations Events webpage at https://extension.unh.edu/event-tags/pruning-demonstrations.

If you cannot attend one of these, we also have resources available on our website pertaining to pruning including It’s Pruning Season and The Basics of Pruning Trees and Shrubs as well as a fact sheet specific to blueberries, Growing Fruit: Highbush
Blueberries
, which includes information on pruning on page 2.

If you aren’t able to prune the blueberries yourself, we recommend contacting a NH Certified Landscape Professional to do the work for you. You can find a list of Certified Landscape Professionals here.

Good luck with your blueberries.
